Wimblington Road, Doddington

This residential scheme delivers 13 spacious new detached homes on a greenfield site in the small village of Doddington, north Cambridgeshire.

Whilst outline consent was secured for the scheme in February 2019, the reserved matters application needed to pick up the approved indicative layout and evolve it into an attractive scheme that would meet the scrutiny of the planning department.

We revised the layout to give a stronger frontage and sense of place at the site entrance, provide focal points within the site and open up views out of the development. We achieved this whilst still maintaining generous gardens and decent separation distances throughout, and strategically using soft landscaping to screen views and minimise the visual impact.

Our approach to the design was to use vernacular materials, predominantly brick but with some elements using render or cladding, to remain in keeping with the wider character of Doddington village.

And as for its eco-creds, this site incorporates EV charging points for every house, uses durable building materials, incorporates waste materials within the render to minimise construction waste and provides habitat boxes for birds, bats and bees!
